We are currently hiring for this Summer 2018 position!

 

Summer Internship Overview:

MamLuft&Co. Dance seeks an intern for Summer 2018 who is eager to learn about and participate in various aspects of non-profit arts administration, education, and outreach.

 

Intern supervisor is willing to negotiate assigned projects and duties to cater to the intern’s interests and career goals. However, intern may be required to assist with following:

  • Preparation for Summer Dance & Creativity Camp for Kids, which will include planning the camp themes and preparing crafts for each week.
  • Teaching and assisting at 4 weeks of 2018 Summer Dance Camp for Kids (June 18-22, June 25-29, July 2-6, July 9-13 at The Liberty Exhibition Hall, 3938 Spring Grove Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45223)
    • Camp Hours:
      • Sunday June 17: Mandatory load-in 9am – 3pm
      • Mondays – Thursdays: 8am – 3:30pm
      • Fridays: 8am – 6pm (Each Friday of camp there will be a performance for parents, and there will be a mandatory tear-down directly after the performance.)
  • Assisting during the Adult Summer Workshop (June 4-8, 2018) from 8am-6pm
  • Assisting during the Teen Dance Intensive (June 11-15, 2018) from 8am-4pm
  • Office hours and duties including but not limited to: Marketing, filing and organizing, grant writing and research, social media management, general day to day up-keep, running errands, storage/costume closet organization and cleaning, studio cleaning, and other such tasks.

 

Hours will be mutually agreed upon between intern and intern supervisor and can be negotiated to meet course requirements. Although this is an unpaid position, we have high expectations for this opportunity to experience the workings of a dance non-profit. Candidate must be able to adhere to a reliable, consistent schedule. Candidates are expected to be focused, communicative, reliable, respectful, and self-motivated.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Interest in arts management, non-profit administration, dance, dance education; ideal candidate would have career goals in these areas.
  • General technical proficiency and ability to learn software quickly. Note: will be trained/working in Mac operating system, MS Word and Excel, Google Apps (Voice, Drive, Email), FileMaker Pro, WordPress, social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), and Dropbox.

Dance Instructors

Job posting: Dance instructor

Position Overview:

MamLuft&Co. Dance seeks a qualified, motivated, experienced dance instructors for our 2018-2019 afterschool programs beginning September 2018. Applicant must be able to teach Modern Dance and Ballet to children ranging from 3 to 12 years of age (jazz and tap are pluses but may not be required at this time). Instructor will be working remotely in a school or community center in the Cincinnati area, and thus must be able to work independently with little or no on-the-job direct supervision. Additionally, instructor must have reliable transportation to and from assigned location. As this is not a traditional studio setting, ideal candidate would have experience teaching in a variety of settings to children from a variety of backgrounds with varying levels of experience.

 

Note that this is a contracted position, and as such the instructor will be expected to invoice MamLuft&Co. Dance for payments. The new hire will be paid a set rate per 35- to 40-minute class. Preparation and commute time is not paid, however, mandatory monthly staff meetings are paid (dates and time TBD).

 

Hours in most demand are weekday afternoons starting sometime between 2-4pm and ending sometime between 4-6pm. Times vary by location and program.

 

New hire will need to attend a training session with Education and Outreach Coordinator to review ML&Co. guidelines and policies.

 

Education:

  • Considerable dance training. Although this is not a traditional studio setting, expectations are high: Instructor is expected to provide students with high quality and sound technical training, possess effective class management skills, and maintain clear and consistent communication with parents and with MamLuft&Co. Dance.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • At least two years teaching experience
  • Teaching in school and community settings often involves behavioral and class management issues that are not as prevalent in traditional studio settings: Must be able to effectively discipline while maintaining an encouraging and supportive environment.
  • Must be able to work with students who have little to no dance experience and who may not yet be familiar with “dance etiquette”.
  • Must be able to work remotely and manage class time effectively with little to no on-the-job direct supervision.
  • Must be able to create a recital piece beginning in mid-October 2018 to be finished and presented in May 2019 with the use of pre-existing costumes in MamLuft&Co. Dance’s “costume closet”.

 

Desired Traits:

  • Must possess strong communication and collaborative skills: Must be able to respond to emails in a timely manner and readily communicate via text message and phone. Must be able to attend mandatory monthly staff meetings and work respectfully alongside other staff under the direction of MamLuft&Co. Dance.
  • Must be responsible, reliable, and able to maintain regular attendance to all assigned classes.
  • Must be self-motivated and passionate about educating children in the art of dance

 

Must pass local, state, and federal background check at own expense, and obtain the Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) Security Badge (required of anyone entering CPS buildings on a regular basis.)
