What's the camp focus and why is it unique?

MamLuft&Co. Dance’s Summer Dance Camp for Kids in Cincinnati is about the creative, empowering, expressive, and active practice of dance!

The camp is unique because, according to our research, it is the only camp in Cincinnati that offers Modern Dance and provides options for activities for the entire work day. It is not a 2 or 3-hour camp: activities run from 9am-3pm, with drop-off starting at 8:45am, and aftercare add-ons available up til 5:30pm!

We also DE-emphasize pink and princesses so that boys feel welcome and absolutely comfortable.

What ages are allowed?

Ages 5-10.

Children must have already had at least one year of school that meets at least 6 hours a day.

What is Modern Dance, and why is it good for children?

Historically, Modern Dance developed in the early 1900s and became a recognizable form by the 1950s, when it got its name from the Modern Era. It is different from Ballet because of its use of inversions, “free-er” use of the body (less restrictions), and a strong relationship with the ground. It has strong influences from many different forms of ethnic dance, as well.

Modern Dance is excellent for children because it encourages them to think outside the box, to be creative, to be expressive, to be physically aware, and to move freely.

What is Kids Bop?

Kids Bop is what we call a fun, energetic, and basic hip hop for kids!

What is Creative Movement, and why is it good for children?

Creative Movement is all about they joy of movement: in its creativity, freedom, and power to express! A pre-cursor to Modern Dance, Creative Movement is more about innovation and individuality, and less about traditionalism and rules. Think: barefoot, moving through space with different kinds of energy and flow, and nurturing your child’s individual creativity!

What is the refund policy?

$50 PER CHILD of your tuition payment is a non-refundable deposit and cannot be returned for any reason, whether it be illness, injury, change of plans, or other reasons.

The remaining funds must be requested in writing to [email protected] no later than 5:00pm on May 31st.

How do the payment deadlines work?

FIRST, see the refund policy above!

If you would like to make arrangements for a payment plan, please do not hesitate to contact us. You must be able to use a credit card via PayPal to set-up a payment plan.

You must pay in full by the registration deadlines to receive the appropriate discount.

LATE REGISTRATIONS may not receive a t-shirt, so please avoid the late up-charge and please register by May 31st!

What will the kids do?

Please see the schedule at the top of the page!

What should my child wear?

FIRST OFF, please do not send your child to our camp in clothes that you would be upset about staining. We do LOTS of arts and crafts including permanent markers, inks, paints, glue, paper mache, etc. Even though we provide aprons, they WILL get dirty!

We recommend children wear comfortable clothes, such as knits. Short shorts or open-leg shorts are not recommended. No jeans, skirts, or dresses, please. Children with long hair should be able to tie their hair back.

Children should wear sneakers they can be active in. If they wear sandals, they will have to take them off for their own safety; however, the floor is slippery, so we highly recommend sneakers!

We will have an outdoor water play day (sprinklers, sponges, buckets) and ask you to send a swimsuit, towel, and appropriate shoes for running and playing on a lawn.

What should I pack for my child?
  1. A labeled, nutritious lunch that does not require refrigeration.
  2. At least 2 nutritious snacks (please, no candy!). If your child is staying for extended day, we recommend a third snack.
  3. If your child has severe allergies, PLEASE pack an easy-to-find epi pen. We will also put a name tag on your child with ‘SEVERE ALLERGY.’
  4. Any authorized medicines separated and given to staff, labeled clearly with instructions (this includes epi pens). If you authorize us to administer medicine, you are also releasing any liability for errors in administering.
  5. A labeled change of clothes if he or she may have accidents.
  6. Children with long hair should have hair bands.
  7. Additional needs will be sent via email; please monitor!
